The total sector size of Information and Communication Technologies reached up to a volume of 131.7 billion TL in Turkey

Turkish Informatics Industry Association (TÜBİSAD) announced the "Information and Communication Technology Sector Market Data" for the year 2018. Demonstrating a growth of 15 % on TL basis, the total sector size of Information and Communication Technologies reached up to a volume of 131.7 billion TL in 2018.

Evaluating data on USD basis, the sector size ranging between 30-33 billion USD band decreased down to 27-30 billion USD in 2018, due to the effect of currency rates. Being one of the two main components constituting the total sector size, Information Technologies reached up to 44.7 billion TL with an increase of 15.2 per cent on TL basis; and Communication Technologies reached up to 86.9 billion TL with an increase of 14.9 per cent in the year 2018.

The volume in the subcategories of Information Technologies that reached up to 44.7 billion TL in the year 2018 was declared as 17.1 billion TL for information technology hardware, 18.3 billion TL for information technology software and 9.4 billion TL for information technology service. Communication Technology sector had a size of 86.9 billion TL in the year 2018. Distribution of this number according to subcategories was 27.9 billion TL for communication technology hardware and 59 billion TL for communication technology electronic communication.

12 per cent of the total sector volume was created in Technoparks

Total number of sector's employment increased up to 139.000 people in the year 2018. An increase of 4 per cent was observed in total employment. 76 per cent of the sector's employment is within the Information Technologies category. Technoparks kept on growing and the turnover realized in Technoparks reached up to 16 billion TL in 2018, with an increase of 23.1 per cent compared to the previous year. 12 per cent of the total sector volume was created in technoparks in the year 2018.

14% growth in the exportation performance of the sector

Exportation performance of the sector was realized as 4.916 billion TL with an increase of 14 per cent on TL basis, while a decrease was observed on USD basis due to the 32 per cent devaluation of TL in 2018. In order for increasing the exportation performance, market diversity activities shall be supported along with the corporate enhancement of technology firms.

Expectations and predictions of ICT companies were also included in the "Information and Communication Technology Sector's 2018 Market Data" report of Turkish Informatics Industry Association (TÜBİSAD). According to the report, the company representatives listed the technological fields that would be influential on the industry in the oncoming 5 years as follows: Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Technology, Analytical / Big Data, Industry 4.0, Cyber Security, Advancing Technologies (3D printers, virtual reality, etc.), Blockchain, Modernization of Current Systems.
