Food waste is one of the biggest problems facing humankind today. Wasting food is not only an ethical and economic issue but it also depletes the environment of limited natural resources. Fazla Gıda is a startup that provides technological solutions to curb food waste, and has recently received its third round investments of 2.2 million TL.
Ahmet Şevki Altın, EGİAD, Nuri Cem Erbak, GBA (Ahu Serter, Yılmaz Yıldız, Ömer Faruk Akarca, Uğur Şeker), Ercan Solmaz, Meltem Kirişçi, Özgür Trakya, Haluk Can Hür and Tarık Bayar participated in Series C funding. This is the 4th investment of GBA in this year and 32nd investment in total.
Established in 2016, Fazla Gıda received a $60,000 investment from 500 Istanbul in May 2017. The startup got €120K in its second round of funding from Berlin's METRO Accelerator for Retail powered by Techstars in partnership with Hospitality.Digital and it has recently received its third round of funding.
Fazla Gıda is one of the 9 startups funded by the United Nations Development Programme. The investment will help Fazla Gıda to expand its operations in Turkey and to develop technological infrastructure for data analysis and recycling solutions.
Food Waste Recovery: 1600 tones
Fazla Gıda aims at becoming a regional leader on e-waste management and will accelerate its global expansion. The Turkish startup provides service in 19 cities in Turkey and the amount of food waste recovered has reached 1600 tones.
The solutions of food waste recovery offered by the company include food donation, recycling, animal feeding and data analysis.
